On the morning of September 24, 2023, the 40th Anniversary Celebration of the Mathematics Discipline of SZU was held in the conference room on the second floor of the Alumni Plaza of the Yuehai Campus of SZU. Academician Mao Junfa, President of SZU, expressed his gratitude to all the guests who have long been concerned about and supported the development of the Mathematical Sciences of SZU. He said that the School of Mathematical Sciences will continue to adhere to the responsibility of cultivating high-quality mathematical talents and carrying out high-quality scientific research, keeping its feet on the ground, pioneering and enterprising, actively serving the construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and the advanced demonstration area in Shenzhen, and making unremitting efforts to build a first-class high-level mathematics discipline.
Academician Tian Gang delivered a speech on behalf of the Chinese Mathematical Society. He pointed out that over the past 40 years, the mathematics discipline of SZU has made remarkable achievements. While developing rapidly, the School of Mathematical Sciences of SZU has maintained a close cooperative relationship with the Chinese Mathematical Society and established a good academic reputation at home and abroad. On behalf of the Chinese Mathematical Society, he wished that the School of Mathematical Sciences of SZU would make even more brilliant achievements on the road of development in the future, and make greater contributions to the promotion of China's mathematical career.
Academician Yuan Yaxiang expressed his congratulations to the 40th anniversary of the Mathematics Discipline of SZU on behalf of the International Union of Industrial and Applied Mathematics. He expressed his hope to continue to make concerted efforts and work hand in hand in the future to develop high-level mathematics disciplines and make greater contributions to the scientific and technological progress and social development of China.
Academician Tang Tao delivered a speech on behalf of the sister universities, wishing that the School of Mathematical Sciences of SZU could further develop steadily, cultivate more excellent talents for our country in the journey of the new era, and make more excellent contributions to the scientific and technological innovation and social development of the country.
Academician Zhang Jiping, representative of the academic community, said in his speech that the Mathematics Discipline of SZU has made excellent achievements in scientific research innovation and faculty building. He expressed his congratulations to the 40th anniversary of the Mathematics Discipline of SZU and wished the college another success in the future development.
Academician Zhang Ping, a representative of the research institute, said in his speech that the development of the mathematics discipline cannot be separated from cooperation and exchange. Looking back, the School of Mathematical Sciences of Shenzhen University and the Institute of Mathematics and Systems Science of the Chinese Academy of Sciences have established a good foundation for exchange and cooperation. Looking into the future, we hope that the two institutes will make concerted efforts and work hand in hand to write a new chapter for the development of Chinese mathematics discipline.
On behalf of the sister colleges, Prof. Chen Dayue expressed his congratulations to the 40th anniversary of the Mathematics Discipline of SZU, mentioning that the Mathematics Discipline of SZU has formed a complete talent cultivation system from Bachelor's Degree, Master's Degree to Doctoral Degree in a relatively short period of time, and cultivated a large number of mathematical top talents. It is hoped that in the future, the two colleges will support each other, work together, and make unremitting efforts to build our country into a mathematical powerhouse at an early date.
Prof. Yao Zhengan delivered a speech on behalf of Guangdong Mathematical Society, saying that Guangdong Mathematical Society has witnessed SZU Mathematics from its humble beginnings in the 1980's to its present flourishing status, and hoped to continue to unite and work hard to push SZU Mathematics forward, and to write a new chapter of Guangdong Mathematics and even Chinese Mathematics together.
Prof. Wang Qiru delivered a speech on behalf of Guangdong Society of Industrial and Applied Mathematics. He said that the Mathematics Discipline of SZU has given great support to the Guangdong Society of Industrial and Applied Mathematics and achieved excellent results in various competitions. He expressed his blessings to the 40th anniversary of the Mathematics Discipline of SZU and hoped that we could work together to strengthen cooperation and achieve even better results in the future.
The invited representative, Mr. Liu Jiming, expressed his congratulations to the 40th anniversary of the Mathematical Disciplines of SZU and said that he would support the Chinese Mathematical Disciplines in the future and hoped that the development of the Chinese Mathematical Disciplines would be better and better.
The representative of the alumni, Mr. Mo Pinxi, Vice Principal of Shenzhen Taoyuan Middle School, reviewed the development history of the Mathematics discipline of SZU and expressed his gratitude and blessings to his alma mater in his speech.
Prof. Zhang Wenjun, the first dean, said that the 40th anniversary of the College is not only a review of the history and a summary of the current situation, but also should be an outlook and planning for the future development. He sincerely wished that the College would achieve further success and reach new heights in its future development.
The dean of the School of Mathematical Sciences of Shenzhen University said that after 40 years of unremitting struggle, the School has achieved fruitful results in scientific research and innovation, governance and education, social service, etc. In September 2023, the mathematics discipline of Shenzhen University entered the top 1% of the global ranking of ESI disciplines. At present, Shenzhen University is accelerating the creation of world-class innovative universities, building a new era of socialism with Chinese characteristics of the benchmark universities, the College teachers and students will be committed to not slacken, continue to move forward, seize the historical opportunity to open the development of the discipline of mathematics a new journey.
In 2023, the College was officially renamed "Shenzhen University College of Mathematical Sciences", and the President of the University, Academician Mao Junfa, Academician Tian Gang, Academician Xu Zongben, Academician Zhou Xiangyu, Academician Fang Fuzuan, Academician Tang Tao, Academician Zhang Jiping, Academician Zhang Ping, Vice-President Xu Chen, and Vice-President Li Yonghua unveiled the plaque of the College of Mathematical Sciences of SZU together.
In order to implement the "14th Five-Year Plan" and the medium and long-term development goals of Shenzhen University, and to promote the construction of the mathematics discipline of Shenzhen University as a world-class discipline, the university has established the Strategic Advisory Committee of Mathematics Discipline of Shenzhen University. SZU Mathematics Strategic Advisory Committee is a think-tank for the development of mathematics discipline in SZU, which is a specialized institution to provide advice and guidance for the development of mathematics discipline, scientific research leadership and talent cultivation and other important matters, and to serve the long-term development of the discipline of mathematics to provide advice and guidance for the development of the discipline of mathematics in SZU, and to provide advice and suggestions for the development of mathematics discipline of SZU in the implementation of the major decision-making and decision-making.
